Why stay at JJ’s Hostel Mirissa?

JJ’s is a modern hostel that provides luxury, comfort, space and good service which is why we were the recipient of an international hospitality award in 2018/2021. We provide quality facilities in a comfortable environment with many spacious chill out areas. Our rooms are very large and all have private attached bathrooms and toilets. All dorms are air-conditioned and towels are included in the price. International power sockets and lamps are available for each dorm bed.


What sort of rooms do you have?

We have two (2) large Mixed dorms containing eight (8) beds and one (1) large Female dorm containing six (6) beds. Each have attached bathrooms with twin basins and two individual showers and a toilet. The rooms are air-conditioned and fitted with extremely comfortable mattresses. You have access to a private locker, reading lamp and universal wall sockets. A complimentary towel is provided.

Our privates rooms, three (3) A/C and three (3) Fan rooms are spacious yet simply appointed with the focus on the quality of furnishings. Each room has a superior queen mattress, very large bathroom and a semi-private terrace with day bed, coffee table and stool. Breakfast is included with private room reservations.


Can I reserve without a credit card?

No, unfortunately it’s not possible to make a reservation in advance without providing your credit card details in the booking process. You can however opt to pay cash on arrival. All credit card transactions in foreign currency have a small fee of 1.5%, however rupee transactions have a surcharge fee of 3%. We are unable to accept payments using debit card, American Express or Diners.


Can I reserve via the website?

Can I reserve by phone?

Yes, by calling us direct on +94 (0) 412 260 710 you can book in advance. Please have your credit card details to hand when you call.


Do you accept group reservations?

Yes, in most circumstances we welcome group reservations. Please email or call us to make an inquiry.


Is there an age limit?

For our dorm rooms only. All guests in the dorm must be of at least 18 years of age. For our private rooms, guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18 years. This should be advised to the hostel at the time of booking.


What is your cancellation policy?

Bookings made in advance are allowed 2 days or more cancellation notice in order to receive a full refund of payment. Any cancellation made less than 2 days before scheduled arrival/check in may result in forfeiture of the full amount of your stay. You will also forfeit your full rate if you do not show up on your scheduled arrival date.


Is breakfast provided?

We provide a great breakfast every morning between 8:30am and 10am. Breakfast is included in the room rates for our private rooms and is an additional cost for our dorm guests. We make every effort to offer you the best quality produce from around Sri Lanka. Our strawberry jam originates from the hills of Nuwara Eliya and is packed with real strawberries. The coffee served is Sri Lankan grown and roasted and of international quality, sure to satisfy any caffeine craving. And our bread is the best available in the area. Our menu ranges from fresh omelettes, to French toast, fruit plates and cereal. Breakfast is served with tea or coffee and toast and jam. An optional breakfast smoothie is also available.

We are unable to offer breakfast before 8:30am. Sorry all you whale watchers, but you will receive breakfast on-board if you book your tour through us.


Do you have wheelchair access?

We do not have wheelchair access but we comply with all regulations and will accommodate and assist any guests with a disability as far as possible. Our ground floor A/C rooms are advisable. All Fan rooms and dorms are accessed by a single flight of stairs.


Do you have free wifi?

Yes, we have free (and fast) WI FI throughout the hostel.


Is supply bed linen and towels?

Yes, you will be supplied with these on arrival. Beach towels are also available for rent for an additional one off cost of $1.


Do you have a kitchen?

Yes we have a guest kitchen containing a gas cooker, cooking equipment and utensils, basic condiments and spices, a refrigerator, microwave, kettle and toaster.


Do you have female dormitories?

Yes we have a six (6) bed female only dormitory. The dorm has private showers and a toilet attached.


Will I be sharing a bathroom?

No. Each dorm room has a private modern bathroom containing two showers and a separate toilet.


Do you accept pets?

No, for the comfort of all of our guests, we do not accept pets. We already have five adorable cats that love attention.


Do you have a luggage room?

Yes we have a storage room for bags which is kept locked at all times. We also have large individual lockers for each dorm guest.


What time is check in and check out?

Check in is from 14:00 to 22:00. Check out is any time up till 11:00 on the date of departure. Early check-in is subject to availability on the day. Late check-ins are possible only if you have made a prior booking.


I’m arriving late, will reception be open?

Our reception is open everyday from 8:00am until 10.00pm. If you are due to arrive after 10.00pm, then please contact us by email to arrange a late check-in.


I am travelling by car. Where can I park?

We have a limited number of parking spaces available for cars (up to three) and ample room for motorbikes/scooters.


Can I smoke in my room?

No, but there are designated smoking areas with ash-trays.
